Coyote Sighting Causes Lock-In At Several Schools In Westchester

Several Westchester schools were put on lock-in Thursday following a coyote sighting on school property.

The coyote was seen around 10:45 a.m. Thursday on the Greenburgh school district's Warburg campus on Hartsdale Avenue which includes the Woodlands Middle/High School, Lee F. Jackson School, and the Early Childhood Program.

As a precaution, the schools were placed in lock-in, which means no one including staff and students can leave the buildings, the district said in a Facebook post.

The RJ Bailey and Highview schools were not impacted by the lock-in.

District officials assured parents they were working with the police department and animal control officers.

By 12:30 p.m., the lock-in procedures were suspended, said Dr. Tahira A. DuPree Chase, superintendent of Schools.

"As always, we thank the Greenburgh Police Department and Animal Control for their quick response," she said on the district's website. "At the Greenburgh Central School District, safety is and will always be our main priority."
